Recap: Collin County Days at the Capitol

Recap: Collin County Days at the Capitol

This week, the Allen Fairview Chamber of Commerce joined forces with the Frisco Chamber, McKinney Chamber, and Plano Chamber for Collin County Days at the Texas Capitol. The joint fly-in effort is conducted every biennium when the Texas Legislature is in session, and is an opportunity for the region's business leaders, local elected officials, and other community leaders to carry a unified voice to our state policymakers.

On April 1, the Collin County Days attendees received policy briefings from Texas 2036, state of play updates from Community Impact and Jeremy Wallace with the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express News, and heard from a panel of local elected officials in Collin County representing the Cities of Allen, McKinney, and Prosper. After remarks from State Representative Mihaela Plesa, the evening concluded with a reception where attendees were able to visit with each other as well as staff from the offices of various elected officials.

On April 2, the group received updates from the Texas Comptroller's office and the Governor's Economic Development office before making its way to the Capitol. Following a group photo, attendees received an update from the Texas Supreme Court's Office of Court Administration then made their way to the House gallery for a Collin County Days resolution delivered by Representative Jeff Leach and the Senate gallery for a Collin County Days resolution delivered by Senator Angela Paxton.

Representatives from the Allen Fairview Chamber then conducted individual office visits with our area delegation: Senator Angela Paxton, Representative Jeff Leach, Representative Candy Noble, and Representative Mihaela Plesa. We provided each office with a copy of the Chamber's state legislative priorities, and each legislator or their staff gave us an update on their office's latest efforts. With the pace of activity ramping up in the Texas Legislature, several bills will soon be heard in committee and will begin receiving votes on the floor of the House and/or Senate. The Chamber will continue advocating on behalf of the Allen area business community and will share important updates with our membership.

PS - You never know who you're going to run into at the Capitol!
